SKILL LEVEL GROUP (indicate group on entry tag)

  • Beginner (an exhibitor just starting to learn the skill)
  • Amateur (an exhibitor who engages in an activity as a pastime rather than a profession, does not receive income that exceeds cost of materials)
  • Professional (an exhibitor who put their work on display in a show or gallery with the intention of selling it. Instructors or teachers are considered professional)
  • People with Disabilities (all ages)


RULES & GUIDELINES

  • Enter in the name of the person who created the work.
  • Create the artwork within two years of the current fair.
  • Enter the artwork only one time.
  • Art Exhibit Guidelines
  • Exhibitors may submit up to three entries in each Class within their Skill Group.
  • Entry tags will be created by the department volunteers.
  • No wet, unfinished or damaged artwork is permitted.
  • Artwork should be suitable for family viewing. The department superintendent reserves the right to exclude any artwork which is deemed inappropriate.
  • Names or watermarks will be covered during judging.
  • Exhibits may not be sold. Sales tags are not allowed.
  • No person employed in a Division may be an exhibitor in that Division.
  • All work must be ORIGINAL. Entries will be disqualified if the judge feels it is not original.
  • Please indicate which side is UP by marking arrows on the back of the artwork.
  • Superintendents of the Fine Arts, Folk Art may determine the eligibility of exhibits and may disqualify exhibits.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  • Composition: clear subject matter that keeps the viewers’ attention.
  • Technique: skillful and expressive use of materials, color, design, texture, quality, and presentation.
  • Meaning: provokes an emotion, makes a statement, tells a story, or is intended as purely representational or functional use.

DISPLAY REQUIREMENTS

1. Drawing & Painting

  • Dry mediums must be sprayed with a fixative. Framed artwork has a maximum frame size of 24 x 36 inches. No minimum size.
  • All framed artwork must have adequate hanging wire. No saw tooth hangers will be accepted.
  • NO GLASS is allowed on any framed artwork.
  • Unframed artwork must be mounted, or matted and mounted on a backing of mat board, poster board or foam core. Unframed artwork has a maximum presentation size of 24 x 36 inches.
  • Entries larger than 11 x 14 inches must have adequate hanging wire. No saw tooth hangers will be accepted.
  • For entries that are 11 x 14 inches or smaller, no preparation for hanging is necessary. Staff will place uniform hanging materials when entries are received.

2. Graphic Arts

  • Hard-copy printed entries have a size minimum of 8 x 10 inches and a maximum size of 11 x 17 inches.
  • No digital entries are accepted.
  • All entries must be mounted, or matted and mounted onto a 16 x 20 inch backing of mat board, poster board or foam core.
  • No framed entries will be accepted.
  • No preparation for hanging is necessary. Staff will place uniform hanging materials on exhibits when entries are received.

3. Sculpture & Folk Art

  • No size limits.
  • Entries must safely display within the space available (contact superintendent for large-scale entries).
  • Small entries, such as jewelry, and others that are small or delicate, must be attached to a larger firm backing or base for security reasons.
  • Stationary artwork must be prepared for safe and stable display.
  • Hanging entries must have adequate hanging wire.
  • Exhibitor must provide all display stands, tools, materials, and labor needed for proper display of the entry.
  • No saw tooth hangers will be accepted.

Class 1: Drawing (Surface of the paper still showing and intentional. Dry mediums must be fixed.)

301. Graphite, colored or watercolor pencil

302. Ink, pen, marker

303. Pastels

304. Mixed media


Class 2: Painting (Entire surface is covered. Dry mediums must be fixed.)

Lot:

315. Acrylic, gouache

316. Oil

317. Pastels

318. Watercolors, watercolor pencil

319. Mixed media


Class 3: Graphic Arts

Lot:

320. Calligraphy, commercial layouts, printmaking, screen printing, stenciling, etc.

321. Computer-generated original artwork (hard copy, print only)


Class 4: Sculpture (Original, 3-D artwork created with durable materials)

Lot:

322. 3-D Printing (original art only)

323. Assemblage (found object or repurposed)

324. Cast, carved, or modeled (paper, plaster, resin, metal, rubber, etc.)

325. Collage (paper coiling, decoupage, photomontage, assemblage, etc.)

326. Kinetic (mobiles or free standing)


Class 5: Folk Art (Handcrafted artwork that reflects communities and their cultural heritage. Includes beadwork, batik, blown glass, furniture, rosemaling, street art, tattoo flash, textiles, etc.)

Lot:

327. Decorative (non-functional)

328. Diorama (handmade model scene)

329. Jewelry or wearable art

330. Musical instrument

331. Utilitarian (functional)
